The Orchard sits within the grounds of the Ivy Hill Hotel in Margaretting — a Victorian country house that has spent decades as one of Essex’s most loved places to gather. Weddings, family occasions, quiet dinners, countryside escapes: generations have marked the moments that matter here, surrounded by mature gardens and a good deal of character.
We are proud to continue that tradition, and to give it a fresh dining room for today.

The Orchard is more than just the name of our restaurant. We’re cooking up great plans for the near future. Our gardens will become an integral part of our kitchen, cultivating a variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables and culinary herbs to use throughout the year. As the seasons change, so too will our harvest, allowing our chefs to create dishes inspired by ingredients picked just moments before they are served.
There is something inherently romantic about sharing good food. Candlelight, the aroma drifting from the kitchen, service that is attentive without hovering, plates designed to be savoured slowly — the kind of evening where conversation lingers. The Orchard is a place to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the simple pleasure of proper hospitality.
